April 15, 2025 – Optimum, a pioneering technology company building the world's first high-performance memory infrastructure for any blockchain, today announced the successful closing of an $11 million seed funding round. The round was led by 1kx, with participation from prominent investors including Robot Ventures, Finality Capital, Spartan, CMT Digital, SNZ, Triton Capital, Big Brain, CMS, Longhash, NGC, Animoca, GSR, Caladan, Reforge, and others. This funding will enable Optimum to further develop its groundbreaking technology based on Random Linear Network Coding (RLNC) and expand its team.
Optimum addresses the critical need for efficient and scalable memory solutions in the blockchain space. Current blockchain architectures lack a dedicated memory layer, leading to bottlenecks in throughput, sluggish data propagation, limited data access, and high storage costs. Optimum solves these challenges by providing a decentralized memory infrastructure that significantly enhances network speed, robustness, and throughput, ultimately improving decentralized application (dApp) performance and end-user experience.
"We're thrilled to have the support of such a distinguished group of investors who share our vision for a more efficient and scalable blockchain future," said Professor Muriel Médard, co-founder of Optimum and the NEC Chair at MIT EECS. "Optimum is building the missing memory layer of Web3, enabling the next generation of decentralized applications to thrive."
Optimum's technology is based on Random Linear Network Coding (RLNC), a cutting-edge coding scheme co-invented by Professor Médard. RLNC optimizes data propagation and storage by encoding data into smaller chunks and transmitting them as random linear combinations. This approach significantly improves network efficiency and fault tolerance, ensuring reliable data reconstruction even with packet loss.
Key Features and Benefits of Optimum:
- OptimumP2P: A high-performance publish-subscribe protocol that reduces latency and optimizes data delivery, maximizing validator rewards while minimizing resource consumption.
- Optimum DeRAM: A decentralized Random Access Memory (RAM) layer that ensures atomicity, consistency, and durability (ACD), enabling fast and affordable data storage and access for latency-sensitive applications.
- Scalability: Optimum's architecture is designed to scale seamlessly, accommodating the growing demands of the blockchain ecosystem.
- Enhanced Performance: RLNC dramatically improves data propagation and access speeds, leading to a superior user experience for dApps.
- Reduced Costs: Optimum's efficient data storage and retrieval mechanisms lower infrastructure costs for developers and users.
- Flexibility: Optimum can be integrated with any blockchain through a simple API call.
